Estonia
Brief History
Positively transforming is the phrase used by the Estonian tourism board to described how their country has been changing over the past 10 years. It gained independence from the Soviets in 1991, and in May of 2004 it became a member of the European Union. Estonians live in a culture that is changing rapidly.
Demographic Profile
Estonia is about the size of New Hampshire and Vermont together, and has a population of 1.3 million people, of which 65% are Estonians and 28% are Russian.
Ministry Outlook
Along with all the cultural changes, the church in Estonia is also on the verge of significant transformation. Currently, church leadership consists mainly of an older generation that has been faithful through difficult times, but the reality of time and age is taking this generation from the Estonian church. Due to years of communist persecution and teaching, most of the next generation (age 30-55) is missing from the church. The result is that the emerging leadership in Estonia is made up of young people with visions of change. They are searching for direction!!!
Praying that God would ignite a movement in this next generation in Estonia, we have partnered with local churches and denominations to begin extensive training for these young leaders. This training will equip them with the skills they need to reach their generation with the gospel.
Our hope is to see a country that truly is Positively transforming.
