One experience can change your life

Dear Friends,

Sometimes just one experience can change your life.

I remember when my Dad took me on one of his overseas trips to visit all the missionaries he was responsible for. I was just 12, but came back with a life-time call into missions. I remember when Joel taught me to share my faith. I’ve been doing it, just like he taught me, ever since. I remember when I led a youth outreach in a Hungarian school, just after the revolution. My life was never the same.

Sometimes, it just takes one experience.

This month, 70 college students travel from all over the United States to Eastern Europe. They will give their summer in service with Josiah Venture, leading over 80 camps in 11 countries.

A week of preparation at our training center in Malenovice, Czech Republic, kicks off the experience. They will learn how to work on a team, how to share their faith, how to lead students, and engage in relational evangelism. I’ll be teaching through the book of Ephesians, focusing in on our identity in Christ.

Some of these interns have served several times with JV, others are making their first trip overseas. All of them stepped out in faith to raise their own support, setting aside money-making opportunities in the States to serve in tough spiritual soil, a long ways from home.

They will face intense spiritual warfare and be stretched beyond their comfort zones by new cultures and unfamiliar languages. We pray they will grow, deepen, be transformed. We hope some will be called, be changed, and then change other’s lives for the rest of their lives.
